On Wednesday evening, Dec. 4, Fairfax County police investigated their 20th pedestrian or cyclist fatality in Fairfax County, that of a 14-year-old girl who attended Lake Braddock Secondary School. She attempted to cross Old Keene Mill Road and walked into the westbound lanes, according to police reports. The driver of a Ford Fusion struck the pedestrian while traveling westbound on Old Keene Mill Road. The driver remained on the scene, and alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors in the crash for the driver.
NoVA FSS is asking residents to urge transportation and enforcement officials, as well as local and state elected officials, to implement “comprehensive and effective solutions. … Making greater investment today in street calming design and technology such as automatic speed enforcement (speed cameras) will save lives tomorrow.”
